Save the date – Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival 2027

Peterborough’s much-loved dragon boat festival is back for its 27th year. We are calling all local businesses, clubs and any groups that fancy their chance on the water to get their teams together now.

The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival will take place at Thorpe Meadows on Saturday 19th June 2027, with teams racing head to head in brightly coloured dragon boats. Every pound raised will support Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to local people and their families.

A day out with a purpose

The festival has become a firm favourite in the local calendar, and for many companies it’s the highlight of the summer. Teams of paddlers, a drummer and an experienced helm race over a series of heats on the water. No previous experience is needed.

This year, 25 teams took part and together raised over £13,000 for the hospice. Every entry raises at least £500 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, which could fund 20 hours of expert and compassionate care.

“We’re so excited to be back for the 27th year of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival. It was great to see so many teams involved last year, and so many members of the community coming down to support everyone racing on the water in aid of Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. We can’t wait to do it all over again in 2027!” said Alicja Green, Executive Director at NewWave Events.

Why take part?

Alongside the racing, teams get a day of friendly competition, a chance to get colleagues out of the office, and the satisfaction of raising money for a cause that matters locally. Teams can be in with a chance to win medals and a trophy, and there’s even a fantastic prize for the top fundraising team. There’s also a range of other entertainment on offer, as well as a variety of food and drink. Friends, family and colleagues are encouraged to come along and cheer from the bank.
